Bay Oval is one of New Zealand’s premier cricket venues, and its Stage 2 pavilion came with a deadline that does not move: it had to be ready before the summer’s cricket began.

The brief

The upper floor needed a commercial kitchen, a bar and a conference room wrapped by a viewing deck over the ground; the lower floor, media facilities, bathrooms and service rooms. All of it had to be delivered to a fixed, pre-season completion date, on a working sports ground.

Our role

Kaitiaki Property project-managed the build through construction, representing the client and coordinating the construction and consultant teams to hold the programme. With the pavilion open, we are now fitting out the remaining ground-floor spaces.

Some deadlines you negotiate. The start of the cricket season is not one of them.

Where it stands

The pavilion opened in time for the season and now anchors events and hospitality at the ground year-round, with the remaining ground-floor fit-out underway.
