St Joseph's Māori Girls' College heritage building, refurbished by Kaitiaki Build

Upgrading and restoring existing buildings, including heritage and character structures, with care for what is already there. We handle everything from performance upgrades and reconfiguration to the sensitive restoration of older fabric, balancing modern requirements against the character worth keeping.

Existing buildings hold surprises, so we invest early in understanding the structure and documenting conditions before work starts. We coordinate the specialist trades, structural, services, fire and acoustic, needed to bring a building up to standard, and stage works to keep occupants operating where we can. The result is a high-performance space that respects the building it came from.

We are doing exactly this work at St Joseph’s Māori Girls’ College in Napier, where the historic timber-framed dormitory buildings are being renovated in stages while the hostel stays in use. Older buildings need the specialist trades coordinated tightly and the sequencing planned around the people still living or working in them, which is where most of our experience with them sits.
