At St Joseph’s Māori Girls’ College in Napier, Kaitiaki Build is working through a staged refurbishment of the college’s historic timber-framed dormitory buildings.
The work
The project covers the sleeping, ablution and common areas, with new insulation, double-glazing and heating to bring the spaces up to a modern standard of comfort. We are currently in Stage 1B, on the upper level.
Working in a heritage building
The challenge with buildings like these is improving how they perform without erasing what makes them special. The character of the dormitories is part of the college’s identity, so the upgrades are done carefully and in stages, planned around the hostel and school calendar to keep disruption to a minimum.
